Hair restoration is a surgical procedure that alleviates baldness or improves those areas in which hair grows weak, providing a high hair population by implanting follicles.
The best candidates to undergo this procedure are those individuals that possess a donor area with enough hair, which must be in the back of the scalp, to be transplanted to the bald area.
Patients have to be in good health, they cannot suffer any condition that may harm their health or the healing process. They should also keep a realistic objective of the results that may be achieved.
Once Dr. Robles has confirmed that you are able to undergo the treatment you will go into the operating room. Once in there, Dr. Robles will take pictures of the area to compare the initial situation with the results obtained. Afterwards, you will be sedated and anesthetized.
Hair transplant consists of taking hair from the back of the head and transferring to the balding area. These micro-implants are put into small holes in the scalp. In follicular transference, a scalp flap is positioned in an area of the head that has lost too much hair, such as the forehead or the top of the head. The area from which the flap was taken will be stitched; the scar will not be as the hair of the area grows.
Procedure in which hair is removed from a donor site sectioned into micrografts and transplanted into a balding area. Although micrografts is the most common technique there are other ones.
1 hour or more depending on the area.
Outpatient.
Local with sedation.
Resume normal activities in 2 to 3 days. Go back to strenous activities in 3 weeks.
Several times, one month apart from each other depending on the area of treatment.
If grafts don’t take, surgery may have to be repeated. Differences in transplanted hair texture and density, infection, numbness, bleeding, complications related to anesthesia.
Permanent.
Once the surgery is finished, you will have to use a bandage for approximately 4 days. Even though you will be able to go back to your regular activities two weeks after the surgery, you will have to avoid touching the area of the implant. During those days scabs will form in the implanted area, but they will fall off on their own.
A few days after the surgery you will be able to wash your hair being very careful and you will have to use the ointments prescribed by Dr. Robles.
In a few days you will see that the hair falls off, and approximately 4 months after the surgery, the new hair will grow. The recipient follicles is live tissue that grow cyclically; exactly as regular hair, the transplanted ones need some time to grow.
Potential risks are scarring, the possibility that the follicle wasn’t correctly positioned and the risks related to anesthetics.
Even though the results are not immediately seen, once they are achieved, they will last forever.
After all the details have been confirmed with Dr. Robles, you will be given some documents related to the procedure. There, you will find the informed consent for the surgery, which is a written statement that you’ve been fully informed of the surgery you are about to be practiced, as well as the risks involved. You will also be given a sworn statement of your medical history. Both must be read and filled when they are given to you, however you’ll sign them the day of the surgery on Clínica Robles.
In order to assure your safety and to be certain that the surgery will go without any complications, Dr. Robles will perform some routine pre-surgical tests, including blood tests, ECG, surgical risk tests, and whenever necessary an ultrasound scan.
It is of the utmost importance that you have all of the medication and other elements that Dr. Robles had asked you in previous consults. A fast recovery will depend on that. Medication varies according to the type of treatment or your medical history. This is why that information must be the trustworthy.
